An endless propagation to empower humanity
VMC Analytiks was honored to attend the “Mission to Seafarers (MtS) Sydney Annual Parliamentary Luncheon 2025.” This gathering recognizes seafarers’ contribution to Australia’s maritime industry. Over 210 industry leaders, policymakers and maritime advocates were present during the event. It celebrated the efforts of more than 470,000 seafarers who arrive in New South Wales each year. These modern-day heroes helped move goods sustaining national and global economies.
The luncheon served as a moment of recognition for everyone who shared the duty to support seafarer welfare, safety and mental health. A mission that VMC Analytiks also shares through its published researches at “Ocean Life” – a journal that aimed at improving occupational standards and wellbeing of the maritime sector. We stand with the broader maritime community to champion initiatives that protect and uplift the lives of seafarers.
Influential voices in the industry spoke at the event. Clayton Strong, CEO of Mission to Seafarers Sydney, spoke about the resilience as well as sacrifices of seafarers, of spending months away from their families, often alone and under difficult conditions. He reminded the attendees of the ongoing need for port-based support services and community outreach initiatives. These services give seafarers dignity and connection during their short stay ashore.
Kaylene Dale, CEO of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), provided updates on policy and safety reforms and stressing that agencies should work together to support seafarers. The industry commits to support seafarer rights and follow international labor standards.
The Port Authority of NSW CEO, John McKenna echoed these points. He expressed shared ideas for leaders to work together. His participation showed how port groups, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations can cooperate to bring about real change in the lives of seafarers. Improve shore leave policies while stronger mental health support frameworks are needed. And that the path forward lies in working and taking action together.
For VMC Analytiks, being part of this dialogue reflected our ongoing mission to support seafarers through research, education and strategic partnerships. As an International Journal of Maritime Occupation and Safety, our “Ocean Life” journal has served as a catalyst for evidence-based insights on seafarer wellbeing, workplace safety and policy development. This also includes sea safety and security.
This event manifested the need for cross-sector collaboration and for a long-term plan for maritime welfare. We commend “Mission to Seafarers Sydney” for gathering the maritime industry in one roof as they came to think, recommit and renew efforts to serve the people who keep our global supply chains moving.
As we look ahead, VMC Analytiks stays firm in supporting initiatives that bring about meaningful change in seafarers’ lives. We are honored to be part of a sector valuing compassion, courage and collaboration – qualities that truly define maritime service.
